LIBERATION LECTIONARY - CHRISTMASTIDE

Nia - Purpose

“Do the work your soul must have. Each person’s life must be defined, nurtured and transformed.” - Dr. Katie Geneva Canon

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 20.5

The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.

Habari Gani?

Today’s principle is Nia, which means Purpose: To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. Purpose is communal and deeply personal. Purpose is broad and meaningful for all our people, and our struggle. Our individual purpose is connected to our collective purpose. For many of us, our purpose is to believe that Blackness brings greatness. Throughout history and among many cultures, Black people have brought brilliance to every time and place, in the face of threat, in resisting oppression, in building our own abundance and striving for full freedom.

How have you perceived your sense of purpose? Is it something that has grown or reset over time? Perhaps you have changed your goals and ideas, even relationships and work life. Do you have a foundation of purpose that connects to a common purpose of Black liberation and global well-being?
